Can a digital lens be used on a film camera?
I see many people on the web who want to use your old film lenses on a camera digital. I'm going the other direction, still using a film camera, but want to get different lenses. Apparently, most say advertising lenses These days they are designed for digital cameras, making it more difficult to find lenses specifically for film cameras. Assuming I'll stick with the same brand, type of installation, etc, what I can use a digital lens on a film camera? If so, related question. I've seen lenses with built of stabilazion image. Does this feature work when used in conjunction with a film camera?
It is obvious that the first two respondents did not use the equipment of professionals (who is well … we can all learn something.) The answer to your question is YES … but depends on the lens! Some targets are full frame lenses, while others make smaller sensors found in "some" digital SLR bodies. I can give examples based on Nikon and Olympus the basic concept checking your lens is set independently of the mounting system. For Nikon and Canon, almost all size sensors, but the use of the upper chamber the child 'dx'. Because these sensors are smaller that do not require a lot like the glass to provide an effective photograph so that a large number lens manufacturers now offer built lenses for the DX sensor. These lenses can not be used in full frame sensors. At the upper end of both Nikon and Canon digital SLRs do offer full-frame sensor. If using a lens built for the smaller DX sensor in one of the top full frame DSLR sensor, then yes, you will see "vignettes" where the image Cornes will dramatically dark. No, many manufacturers lenses also offer full-frame lenses such as Sigma, Canon, Nikon y. These lenses work with both types of sensors, but bigger and heavier dx only a size equivalent lens. Examples of some Nikon lenses available today that work in both SLRs and film bodies … Nikon 70-200mm Nikon f/2.8 80-200mm f / 2.8 Nikon 50 mm f/1.4 Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Nikon 85mm f/1.8 Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Nikon 150mm f / 2.8 With regard to the construction of SE, that depends on the body of the film. Needless to say, here or check with the body / lens manufacturer. HTH.
