Normally, a new NB-6L battery is in a condition charging very low and must be fully charged before use. See the user manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions. A lithium ion New Canon NB-6L battery needs to be fully charged and discharged or "cycle" as much as five times to condition them to perform at full capacity. Your equipment may report a full charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new NB-6L camera battery is charging by first time. This is a normal phenomenon, especially for nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) and nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) chemical. When this happens, remove the Canon NB-6L digital camera battery and let it cool for about fifteen minutes and then repeat the charging process. "Air" (full compliance and full load) is necessary to maintain optimal performance of a battery and is recommended at least once a month particularly for Ni-Cd and Ni-MH.
