Why does it matter even ISO for Digital Cameras

In traditional film photography of the past, the film was based on ISO setting, also sometimes called the ASA. When you buy film, usually called a roll of ISO 64 or 100 or 200. The ISO is a measure of the sensitivity of the film light. The lower the ISO number, the less sensitive the film is to light. The higher the ISO number, the more sensitive the film is to light.

In practical terms what this meant was that when you were in low light, either indoors in a family case, you want a higher ISO sensitivity, maybe a 200 or 400. Of course, you could use the flash, but there are some cases where even the flash does not help, as in a sports event on a big stage or a scene the night outdoors. Another feature of the film is an ISO 100 film is considerably slower. This means that the camera shutter must remain open more time to expose the film. A higher ISO sensitivity can have the shutter open for only a fraction of the time to capture the image itself. Great, I ask, What does all this ancient history of cinema have to do with modern digital cameras?

Digital cameras have an ISO setting. However instead of setting each time you change the movie, you can change the ISO setting for each image. The ISO setting you select, or the camera selects the car for you can make a big difference in picture quality. In the old days of film, a higher ISO sensitivity produce a grainy shot. Imagine the pixels on your laptop is further extended. Instead of being tight, as there is usually a small distance from each other, not much, maybe a few microns. How would your image? It is not as sharp and crisp and the colors would not be as rich and saturated. This is how film grain is. The higher the ISO, are separate the "pixels" that make the shot.

Digital cameras have their own version of grain called digital noise. In general the higher the ISO select, the digital noise will be too. Although digital noise is usually an unwanted feature of a digital photo can be used as a design element creative. This may be something you want for some artistic photos, but probably not for a photo of the head of his family.

So the best thing you can do is to check the ISO setting on your digital camera. If Automatic is selected, make sure that in low light you select the setting you want and let the flash (And a tripod) to compensate for poor lighting. In this way the pictures look great, no matter what the conditions.
