How I can test my video camera?

I pluged in a video camera to my computer to use in Skype. How tested, either through Skype or another way to see if it is working. I feel I have a webcam that connected with the driver installed just want to try it to see if it works.

Is it a webcam or a regular video camera? Either needs if usb drivers. A cam can be used to regulate through a video capture card, but you have to configure it in skype
