Why do we need UV filters for camera lens?
As noted in the physical books, glasses are opaque to UV. Camera Lenses are essentially of glasses, which in any case, block UV rays from reaching the sensors. So why do we have to use UV filters?
Many people use a skylight or UV filter to protect the front glass of the lens, but you can also buy high quality filters for flat glass for this purpose. Whatever you do, at least buy a decent quality filter instead of trying to go cheap. Many people use a UV filter just to protect the front element of lens damage. "UV filters absorb the ultraviolet rays which often make outdoor photos hazy or indistinct." (From http://www.thkphoto.com/products/hoya/gf-01.html) We this question very often that I decided to upload a sample of Flickr showing the same subject taken with and without UV filter. Download the image, cut out a small section the top half and drag to the same section in the bottom half and see what you think. The photos were taken about 15 seconds apart in subdued sunlight, so I think the lighting was virtually identical for each. There were no post-processing in all that can make a fair comparison. I will not comment further and let you decide for yourself whether there is any change of color. Http: / / www.flickr.com/photos/7189769 @ N04/441244796 / The photo was taken with a Nikon D200 at ISO 100 with the lens Nikon 18-200 VR @ 112 mm at f/5.3. Here's a comparison I did by accident. Read the comments, including: http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/1793551691/ buy a name brand like Hoya or Tiffen. No cheap junk to put in front of your lens fine. Personally, I'm switching over high quality bearings optical glass "filters" Nikon for lens protection, although they cost more than a good UV filter.
